The Seymour Panthers and the Celeste Blue Devils squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Seymour Panthers had to settle for second. Seymour was outmatched by Celeste on the road and fell 41-12. The matchup was a close 7-6 at the break, but unfortunately for Seymour it sure didn't stay that way.
Seymour's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Slade Thompson, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown. Brayden Loyd was another key contributor, throwing for 218 yards and a touchdown.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Celeste to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anthony Powell, who rushed for 168 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Powell is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Stewart, who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Seymour's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Celeste, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Seymour does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Celeste will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Albany at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Albany is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
