Cleveland Heights extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They lost 23-2 to the Shaker Heights Red Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-4 last Monday.
Cleveland Heights saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sheridan Sweeney, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Shaker Heights, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-4. Considering they have won 11 matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Shaker Heights' side, Scout Harvey made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Harvey has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Shaker Heights got a massive performance out of Emerson Miller, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one double. Those five runs gave Miller a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Molly Milligan, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cleveland Heights will take on Laurel at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Gators have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.17 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Shaker Heights, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Solon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
