Leechburg has gone a perfect 4-0 against Rochester recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Blue Devils will venture away from home to square off against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Leechburg's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Rochester's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Leechburg is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Kiski School just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Blue Devils, who until this contest were averaging 3.33 runs allowed.
Mason Bertino made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Jake Cummings also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Rochester beat St. Joseph 8-3 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.
Jett Williams was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Williams was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Braeden Siget was incredible, going 1-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Cameron Janectic, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
The victory got Rochester back to even at 5-5. As for Leechburg, their loss dropped their record down to 10-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Leechburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rochester struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Leechburg took their win against Rochester in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
