WPIAL AA Allegheny recap October 8, 2013
Freeport scaled the state rankings by moving to 421 from 468 this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL AA Allegheny. The Yellowjackets climbed the ranks as a result of beating Burrell 12-10.
Shady Side Academy extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating East Allegheny, 52-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Andrew Romanchak was a passing and rushing force as Freeport beat the Bucs. He completed 8 passes for 83 yards and also ran for 125 yards. Romanchak's favorite target this week was Dylan Hochbein, who caught 4 passes for 55 yards.
Jarred Brevard was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 133 yards on 17 carries as Shady Side Academy topped Burrell. Teammate Charles Calabrese added to the ground attack by rushing for 64 yards.
Ford City's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Sabers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Michael Bartosiewicz has thrown for 354 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, while Cody Peppler has 5 catches for 176 yards.
An important game coming up in WPIAL AA Allegheny this week will be when Summit Academy takes on Valley. At the moment, the Knights are in fourth, while the Vikings are in third.
The Yellowjackets made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,666 from 10,811. The advance stemmed from a 12-10 victory over Kevin Horwatt's team last week.
