The Economedes Jaguars were the 83-78 winner over the Mission Eagles when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Economedes took a hard 57-38 fall against Mission on Friday. Economedes has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Economedes lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nathaniel De La Garza. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points. That was a full 44.7% of Economedes' points, marking the 14th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leo Zamora, who scored five points along with two steals.
Economedes' loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Mission, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-18.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Economedes will stay at home for another game and welcome La Joya at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. La Joya is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games. As for Mission, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
