The Tanque Verde Hawks will head out to challenge the Willcox Cowboys at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tanque Verde's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Sahuaro as they made off with a 16-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Hawks, who have now won 13 contests in a row.
Gabby Fukunaga looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Emily Ryan was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Cassidy Jones also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Tanque Verde hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 13 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Willcox). They blew past San Miguel 21-0 on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Lilly Williams and Hattie Macumber were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Williams tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Macumber struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). At bat, Williams went 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Macumber went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Karlie St. Clair was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Janelle Vandermeulen was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Tanque Verde's record now sits at 16-3. As for Willcox, their record is now 13-4.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Tanque Verde has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .542. However, it's not like Willcox struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tanque Verde skirted past Willcox 2-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
