The Shelbyville Golden Bears are taking a road trip to challenge the Delta Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Shelbyville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Shelbyville was able to grind out a solid victory over Franklin Central, taking the game 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Golden Bears.
Adair Zermeno looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Shelbyville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The Golden Bears are 2-1 when Smith posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Gavyn Fisher also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Delta came tearing into Monday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 23-2 margin over the Bearcats. That looming 23-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.
Sebastian Gillum looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Everrett Linn, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gavin Case, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Delta was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in six consecutive games.
Delta's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Shelbyville, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Shelbyville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Delta struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Shelbyville was able to grind out a solid victory over Delta in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
