Lutheran West is 0-8 against Independence since April of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Longhorns will look to defend their home field against the Blue Devils at 7:15 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.
Independence will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Lutheran West extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Longhorns put the hurt on Trinity with a sharp 24-7 win. The Longhorns might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Gabriella 'Gabi' List made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. List was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lutheran West got a massive performance out of Aryana 'Ary' Garcia, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Garcia has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Leah Miller, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Lutheran West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Independence never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against New London as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.
Lila Manfredonia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Manfredonia was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Independence let Macey McGhee and Paige Priebe run wild. McGhee went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Priebe went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Brooke Vollman was another key player, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Independence's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Lutheran West, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lutheran West hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .437. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lutheran West suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Independence in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Longhorns avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
