The Hitchcock County Falcons's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 47-40 win over Brady. That's another feather in the cap for Hitchcock County, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Hitchcock County can attribute much of their success to Katie Jarecke, who scored 20 points along with six steals. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. Byanka Tyan was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Brady saw an underclassman step up: Payton Stienike dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Stienike hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Lydic, who scored nine points.
Hitchcock County's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Brady, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Hitchcock County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Anselmo-Merna at 4:00 p.m. on December 30th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Anselmo-Merna is ranked 190th, while Hitchcock County is ranked 185th). Brady will finish 2023 at home by hosting Loomis at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
