Floyd County hasn't had much luck against Patrick County recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Buffaloes will challenge the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Floyd County took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Radford 17-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Emma Biesterveld made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Allen, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Lilly Gillispie, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Floyd County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Patrick County waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Knights.
Like Floyd County, Patrick County also got a great game from a two-way player: Journey Moore. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Moore was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Hayden Lawless was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI. Chloe Hubbard was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Patrick County's record is now 10-2. As for Floyd County, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Floyd County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Patrick County struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Floyd County couldn't quite get it done against Patrick County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 15-11. Can the Buffaloes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
