The Farina South Central Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Newton Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Farina South Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Farina South Central came out on top against Dieterich on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run third inning. The Cougars never let the Movin Maroons get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
The result came thanks to Maddie Peddicord's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zoey Feldhake, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Lauren Johnson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Farina South Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dieterich struck out 12 times.
Meanwhile, Newton fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg by a score of 5-4.
Newton also got a good showing from Emma Inyart, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Inyart has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Newton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allie Hermann, who went 1-for-4 with one run.
Newton's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Farina South Central, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Farina South Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Newton struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Farina South Central might still be hurting after the 16-1 defeat they got from Newton in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
