Even though the Liberty Christian Warriors scored an imposing 67 points on Friday, the Burkburnett Bulldogs still came out on top. Burkburnett took down Liberty Christian 84-67. Given Burkburnett's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Liberty Christian is ranked 902nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Liberty Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Brandon Lohmann and Chuka Akpom. Lohmann scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Akpom scored 18 points along with four steals. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Easton Hupp, who scored 19 points.
The win (which was Burkburnett's third in a row) raised their record to 13-6. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 40 points. As for Liberty Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-16.
Burkburnett and Bridgeport will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Liberty Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Southwest Christian School at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th.
