Oak Grove extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Del Mar Dons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-2 back in April.

Helena Cortez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aolani Cortes was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. Hannah Serrato was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
As for Del Mar, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 3, 2024.
On Del Mar's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Natalie Dixon gave up three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Dixon.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Niarah Aimonetti, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Maren Woodfill, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oak Grove will challenge Pioneer at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.64 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Del Mar, they will take on Prospect at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Dons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
