After a string of seven wins, the De Beque Dragons's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a serious blow against Plateau Valley, falling 56-26. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points De Beque has scored all season.
De Beque's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Wyatt Carman, who scored eight points along with five rebounds, and Jace Graham who scored four points along with 11 rebounds. Graham hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games.
De Beque's lineup was just a bit different on Friday as Carman got a bit more time on the court (22 vs. his season average of 11.08). Carman made the most of the opportunity, scoring eight points along with five rebounds. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
De Beque struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Plateau Valley pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.
Plateau Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Vig, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Jackson Bevan was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
De Beque's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-3. As for Plateau Valley, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1.
De Beque won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Rangely at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. De Beque is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season. As for Plateau Valley, they and West Grand will face off at 4:00 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Plateau Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 matchups -- so hopefully West Grand likes a good challenge.
