Jefferson County hasn't had much luck against Godby recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Tigers will challenge the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Jefferson County will be strutting in after a win while Godby will be coming in after a loss.
While Jefferson County's victory against FAMU DRS wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Baby Rattlers 6-5 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted against the Baby Rattlers since February 27, 2023.
Ja'Lon Crumity made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Crumity was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Marcos Vargas and Kale Hendry did most of the damage at the plate: Vargas went 1-for-2 with five stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Hendry got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Vargas is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. James Boyd also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Jefferson County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as FAMU DRS only posted an OBP of .375.
Godby couldn't beat Rickards on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Cougars lost 29-8 to the Raiders. On the bright side, the eight- run performance marked the Cougars' highest-scoring contest to date.
Patrick Garland was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
Godby's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Jefferson County, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Godby's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Jefferson County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Godby, though, as they've been averaging only 1.8 strikeouts. Will Jefferson County keep running through batters, or will the Cougars buck the trend?
Jefferson County might still be hurting after the 17-3 loss they got from Godby in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
