The Meyersdale Red Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight defeat. They were dealt a 70-37 loss at the hands of Berlin Brothersvalley. Meyersdale was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-24.
Despite the defeat, Meyersdale saw an underclassman step up: Matthew Hainsworth scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavan Steinberg, who scored six points along with two steals.
Berlin Brothersvalley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Craig Jarvis led the charge by scoring 13 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Pace Prosser, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Meyersdale's loss was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Berlin Brothersvalley, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.
Meyersdale will head out on the road to square off against the Huskies at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Northern presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Red Raiders in their respective states (the Huskies are ranked 213th in Maryland, while the Red Raiders are ranked 727th in Pennsylvania). As for Berlin Brothersvalley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Campers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Allegany knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 games -- so hopefully the Mountaineers like a good challenge.
