The Wesson Cobras will be playing at home against the South Pike Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Wesson sitting on seven straight wins and South Pike on three.
Last Friday, Wesson made easy work of Franklin County and carried off a 34-14 victory. The result was nothing new for Wesson, who have now won six matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Wesson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zevantae Stapleton led the charge by rushing for 122 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of O'mari Johnson, who gained 84 total yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, South Pike was able to grind out a solid victory over Jefferson County on Friday, taking the game 30-22.
Tedarrius Aych continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 244 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Aych was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Demonte Martin got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
South Pike's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Micah Nickerson and his three sacks.
Wesson's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-1 Loyd Star and 5-3 Mize (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.1% over those games). South Pike has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first eight matchups, giving them a 6-2 record.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the two teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Wesson commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 6 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like South Pike struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.9 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
