The Lafayette Commodores will be playing in front of their home fans against the Corinth Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Corinth took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lafayette, who comes in off a win.
Lafayette can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They claimed a resounding 50-7 win over New Hope at home. The victory was just what Lafayette needed coming off of a 42-3 loss in their prior contest.
Lafayette got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nick Thompson out in front who threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of J'meire Jones, who picked up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Corinth fell victim to Clarksdale's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Wildcats on the road and fell 41-0. While losing is never fun, Corinth can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Clarksdale is ranked 40th).
Lafayette now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Corinth, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Lafayette couldn't quite finish off Corinth in their previous meeting back in August of 2014 and fell 17-14. Can Lafayette avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
