The Prescott Badgers were the 35-13 winner over the Coconino Panthers when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Prescott fell to Coconino 42-37. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Several Badgers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Johann Gundermann, who picked up 132 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Rice, who threw for 316 yards and two touchdowns while completing 93.3% of his passes.
It was another big night for Bridger French, who rushed for 262 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. French is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Colton Buckingham was another key contributor, rushing for 35 yards and a touchdown.
This is the second loss in a row for Prescott and nudges their season record down to 4-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-3 Bradshaw Mountain (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70% over those games). As for Coconino, their victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 7-3.
Prescott will take on Mingus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mingus comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Coconino, they will head out on the road to face off against Flagstaff at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The pair might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games.
