Scappoose has gone a perfect 3-0 against Marist recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Indians will welcome the Spartans at 12:00 p.m. Both teams are still undefeated (Scappoose has six wins , while Marist has three).
Scappoose barely beat The Dalles the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Indians never let the Riverhawks get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Tuesday. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by nine runs or more this season.
Saige Casey made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Sophia Bloyd was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Komp, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Scappoose was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .382 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Marist had just enough and edged out Elmira 10-9 on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by just one run.
Marist got a massive performance out of Tizita Martin, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Sophia Lydon was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.
Marist pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.0 runs this season. As for Scappoose, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Scappoose hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .577. However, it's not like Marist struggles in that department as they've averaged .467. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Scappoose took their win against Marist in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 19-1 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
