The St. John XXIII Lions are taking a road trip to take on the Antonian Prep Apaches at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
St. John XXIII took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Incarnate Word Academy. The victory was some much needed relief for the Lions as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Alexa Ramirez made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Ella Delaune was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Emma Morrison was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
St. John XXIII was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Incarnate Word Academy only posted a batting average of .208.
Meanwhile, Antonian Prep came tearing into last Wednesday's contest with 15 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 15-0 shutout. The Apaches might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matches by seven runs or more this season.
Isabella Garza and Rylee De La Garza did most of the damage at the plate: Garza went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while De La Garza got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Bella Vasquez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Antonian Prep pushed their record up to 23-7 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games. As for St. John XXIII, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Everything went St. John XXIII's way against Antonian Prep in their previous meeting back in May of 2018, as St. John XXIII made off with a 14-2 victory. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Apaches turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
