Baseball Recap: Caldwell Academy Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Caldwell Academy waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the Gaston Day Spartans. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Jack Pearman spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Neal Swindell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer McBurney, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Caldwell Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gaston Day only posted an OBP of .217.

Caldwell Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Gaston Day, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Caldwell Academy will square off against Greensboro Day School at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greensboro Day School will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Gaston Day, they will host Metrolina Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Metrolina Christian Academy will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Gaston Day surely won't give up without a fight.
