The Tamaqua Blue Raiders were the 56-42 winner over the Schuylkill Valley Panthers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Tamaqua took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Schuylkill Valley. Tamaqua has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Tamaqua still got an impressive performance from Noah Mateyak, who scored 25 points along with three steals. Luke Kane was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Tamaqua's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Schuylkill Valley, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tamaqua won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Pine Grove at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Pine Grove is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Schuylkill Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Hamburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hamburg will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 697th, while Schuylkill Valley is ranked 297th).
