North East and Perryville are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Indians will be playing at home against the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. North East will be strutting in after a win while Perryville will be coming in after a defeat.
North East headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for five straight, but Elkton let them put that streak behind them. The Indians were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Golden Elks on Tuesday. The Indians not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 14-0).
Jazmyn Martin made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, North East let Corinne Logullo and Taylor Zellner run wild. Logullo got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Zellner went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Logullo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Victoria McGee, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
North East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Perryville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against North Harford, falling 15-9.
Taylor McGuirk made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. Sarah Cantrell was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Perryville's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for North East, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. North East has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Perryville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
North East beat Perryville 4-1 when the teams last played on April 3rd. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
