Paintsville is 10-0 against Magoffin County since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Paintsville Tigers on the road again and play against the Magoffin County Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Paintsville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Paintsville only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 32-point they dealt Floyd Central on Wednesday. Paintsville simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Floyd Central 71-39 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Paintsville has posted yet this season.
Meanwhile, Magoffin County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Lawrence County at home and fell 66-26. While losing is never fun, Magoffin County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Lawrence County is ranked 55th).
Paintsville now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Magoffin County, they bumped their record down to 1-13 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Paintsville against Magoffin County in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 80-37 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Paintsville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
