Mica Mountain has gone a perfect 3-0 against Mountain View recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Thunderbolts will face off against the Mountain Lions at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mica Mountain proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over ALA - Queen Creek. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Thunderbolts have posted since April 28, 2025.
Wyatt Almand and Raydon Rocha did most of the damage at the plate: Almand went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Rocha went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was Rocha's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Johnny Nyman, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mountain View entered their tilt with Flowing Wells on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Caballeros. The result was nothing new for the Mountain Lions, who have now won three contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Mountain View also got a great performance from Jayden Miller as he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Benjamin Cleveland was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Bode Baker was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Mountain View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Flowing Wells only posted an OBP of .367.
Mica Mountain's record is now 2-4. As for Mountain View, their record now sits at 4-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mica Mountain has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Mica Mountain's way against Mountain View when the teams last played back in March of 2025, as Mica Mountain made off with a 10-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunderbolts since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
