After two weeks on the road, South Winneshiek is heading back home. On Friday they will take on Newman Catholic at 7:00 PM. Coming off of a loss in a game they were expected to win, South Winneshiek now face the more daunting task of proving themselves against unfavorable odds.
South Winneshiek and Central Springs were almost perfectly matched up last Friday, but South Winneshiek suffered an agonizing 29-30 loss. Things were expected to be close, but in this case the state rankings mixed up the winning team.
As for Newman Catholic, they had a rough outing against Grundy Center two weeks ago, but a little bit of home cooking seems to have fixed things right up. Newman Catholic strolled past St. Ansgar with points to spare, taking the game 41-26.
Newman Catholic's victory lifted them to 6-2 while South Winneshiek's defeat dropped them down to 4-4. We'll find out if Newman Catholic can add another positive mark to their record or if South Winneshiek can shake off the defeat and take the spring out of Newman Catholic's step.
