The Overton Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Craigmont Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Overton is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Last Friday, Overton was fully in charge, breezing past Mitchell 64-8 at home. Given Overton's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Mitchell is ranked 277th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Overton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alexandria Clemmons led the charge by scoring 19 points along with 7 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Clemmons has scored at least 25% of Overton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kierra Baldwin, who scored 16 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals.
Meanwhile, Craigmont's three-game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday. They snuck past Hillcrest with a 46-41 win.
Overton's win lifted them to 4-1 while Mitchell's defeat dropped them down to 1-3.
Overton strolled past Craigmont in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a score of 42-25. Will Overton repeat their success, or does Craigmont have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
