Baseball Game Preview: Mercer Mustangs vs. Sharpsville Blue Devils

Mercer hasn't had much luck against Sharpsville recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs will challenge the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m.

Moniteau hit Mercer with a eight-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs fell 14-9 to the Warriors.

Justin Amos made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Mercer is 2-1 when Amos posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Puskar, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Sharpsville hadn't beaten Lakeview on the road since May 29, 2023 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Blue Devils blew past the Sailors 13-2. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by nine runs or more this season.

GABE TITUS and LINCOLN BREIT made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, TITUS pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, BREIT struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, TITUS posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. At bat, TITUS went 1-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while BREIT went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That double was TITUS' first of the season.

Sharpsville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mercer, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Mercer couldn't quite get it done against Sharpsville in their previous matchup on April 2nd as they fell 5-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
