The Marshall Owls had to endure a five-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 57-49 win over Smith-Cotton on Monday. That looming 57-49 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Marshall yet this season.
Marshall got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brody Kueker out in front who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Kueker has scored at least 25% of Marshall's points. Stephen Caviness was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Marshall's win bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Smith-Cotton, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marshall will be home for the holidays to greet Moberly at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Smith-Cotton will take on Versailles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Versailles has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 464 points over their last six contests.
