The West Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the Hutchinson Salthawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, West strolled past South with points to spare, taking the game 21-6. The victory was just what West needed coming off of a 55-13 defeat in their prior match.
The critical scores for West came from Brandon Busher and Anthony Steele.
Meanwhile, Hutchinson had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They put the hurt on Andover with a sharp 34-8 victory. Given Hutchinson's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Andover is ranked 126th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hutchinson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kade Smith out in front who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Smith is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Zion Burgess was another key contributor, rushing for 94 yards and a touchdown.
West's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Hutchinson, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2.
Everything went West's way against Hutchinson in their previous matchup back in September of 2019 as West made off with a 38-14 victory. Does West have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hutchinson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
