Basketball Recap: Kaiya Conway's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Westover over Colquitt County

Westover lost against Colquitt County back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Westover Patriots took a 52-33 bruising from the Colquitt County Packers. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Packers are ranked 26th).

Westover's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaiya Conway, who posted eight points and ten rebounds. Conway is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games she's played. Savannah Donaldson was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Westover smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Colquitt County was led to victory by Nacardia Robinson and Amira Walters- Smith. Robinson went 8 of 12 on her way to 19 points and seven rebounds, while Walters- Smith had 20 points and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Walters- Smith has scored at least a third of Colquitt County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amareyia Knighton, who put up eight points along with seven assists and six rebounds.

Westover now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Colquitt County, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Westover didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-35 win against Crisp County on the 17th. As for Colquitt County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-56 victory against Dougherty on the 17th.
