The McMinnville Grizzlies will head out on the road to face off against the Century Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for McMinnville and four for Century.
Last Friday, McMinnville was the victim of a rough 35-14 loss at the hands of Liberty.
Even if they lost, McMinnville's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Liberty's QB was sacked three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Landon Fay and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Century ended up a good deal behind Newberg on Friday and lost 42-27.
Despite their loss, Century saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jonny Ellis, who threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all.
McMinnville's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Sherwood and 6-2 Lake Oswego (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70% over those games). As for Century, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: McMinnville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 192.3 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Century, though, as they've been averaging only 50.6 per game. How will Century fare against such a dominant running game?
McMinnville came up short against Century in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 26-22. Thankfully for McMinnville, Elijah Garcia (who rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
