San Diego and Lyford are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Vaqueros will venture away from home to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. San Diego has given up an average of 26.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
While San Diego's win against Falfurrias wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vaqueros skirted past the Fightin' Jerseys 34-32. The Vaqueros haven't had any issues with the Fightin' Jerseys recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Francisco Villagran continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 179 yards and two TDs, while also rushing for 53 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. His passing game has become a key predictor of San Diego's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-6 otherwise. 106 of Villagran's passing yards were hauled in by Aj Biscarro, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to San Diego's defensive line and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jake Salinas, Davin Gonzalez, and Eugene Soliz, who each picked up one sack apiece. San Diego received some extra help from Soliz, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, while Lyford put up plenty of points on Thursday, the same can't be said for Progreso. The Bulldogs blew past the Red Ants 66-0. The game marked the Bulldogs' most dominant win of the season.
Lyford's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for San Diego, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
San Diego strolled past Lyford in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a score of 36-19. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bulldogs' Adrian Chavez, who rushed for 51 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 30 receiving yards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Vaqueros to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
