The Bethlehem Central Eagles will face off against the Shaker Bison at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Bethlehem Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Bethlehem Central was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Schenectady on Thursday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 23-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won five in a row.
Molly Campbell was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Lyla Hanlon was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Meghan Biche, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Bethlehem Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Shaker was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Baldwinsville.
Ruby Szemplinski was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Abagael Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Shaker's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Bethlehem Central, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bethlehem Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Shaker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bethlehem Central couldn't quite get it done against Shaker when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
