American Leadership Academy is 0-7 against Juan Diego Catholic since April of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Eagles will square off against the Soaring Eagle at 3:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
American Leadership Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Park City, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Eagles fell just short of the Miners by a score of 18-16 on Monday. The Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Jackie Huff and Ryan Hiss did some serious damage despite the final result: Huff went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles, while Hiss got on base in six of her seven plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That double marked the first that Hiss has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karyssa Johnson, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Juan Diego Catholic). They were the clear victors by a 24-1 margin over Summit Academy on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Soaring Eagle in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won eight in a row.
Sienna Wood made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Wood was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Juan Diego Catholic got a massive performance out of Avie Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI Hernandez has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mattie Montoya, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Juan Diego Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 13 consecutive games.
Juan Diego Catholic's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for American Leadership Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. American Leadership Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .570. However, it's not like Juan Diego Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .547. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
American Leadership Academy might still be hurting after the 20-1 loss they got from Juan Diego Catholic in their previous matchup on April 10th. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
