The Old Plank Christian Academy Defenders will head out to challenge the Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Old Plank Christian Academy has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Thursday, Old Plank Christian Academy didn't have quite enough to beat St. Joseph Academy and fell 13-12. The Defenders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Laiton Pechin and Sophia Rodriguez did some serious damage despite the final result: Pechin scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Rodriguez scored four runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-5. Kaylee Gifford also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, while Trinity Christian Academy put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Parsons Christian Academy. The Conquerors blew past the Lions 18-0. The result was nothing new for the Conquerors, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Julianna Chavez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Natalie Varner was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Trinity Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
The win got Trinity Christian Academy back to even at 6-6. As for Old Plank Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Old Plank Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Trinity Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Old Plank Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Trinity Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Defenders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
