New Rochelle scored a stunning upset when it knocked off North Rockland, 12-6. At the time, the Raiders was ranked 22nd in the state, while the Huguenots was 36th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Suffern, who took down 409th ranked Mt. Vernon, 16-14. Chris Gragnani threw for 149 yards and one touchdown in the win.
Mamaroneck's dynamic duo of Danny McCarthy and Mat Marino proved tough for Ramapo to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. McCarthy threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns and Marino had 73 yards receiving. Will Giddon helped Mamaroneck's passing attack out by catching two balls for 17 yards.
Ryan McManus provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Clarkstown South beat Ketcham. He completed seven passes for 117 yards and also ran for 68 yards. McManus' favorite target this week was Eric Margolis, who caught two passes for 55 yards.
Thomas Lent Jr. was the most productive running back in Section 1 AA this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 156 yards as the Vikings bested the Gryphons. Teammate Zach Johnson added to the ground attack by rushing for 140 yards.
Jason Lorvillion made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Mounties topped the Knights. The 5-foot-8 defensive end recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
Mamaroneck's McCarthy and Marino have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McCarthy has thrown for 506 yards this season, while Marino, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 10 catches for 224 yards. North Rockland's Nick Connell leads the league in rushing yards with 432.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Tigers take on Carmel. As it stands, Mamaroneck is in third, while the Rams are in sixth.
McCarthy and Marino provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Ramapo. The connection went for 73 yards, the longest such play in Section 1 AA this season.
