The Falkner Eagles lost against the Byers Lions last Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Falkner lost to Byers on the road by a decisive 64-50 margin. While losing is never fun, Falkner can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Byers is ranked 72nd).
Falkner's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Nunley, who scored 23 points. That was a full 46% of Falkner's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Mauney, who scored 15 points.
Falkner's loss dropped their record down to 10-17. As for Byers, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-4.
Falkner won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Myrtle at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Falkner focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Thursday. As for Byers, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Pine Grove at 8:00 p.m. on February 9th. One thing working in Byers' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
