Chaparral (Scottsdale, Ariz.) captured the lead on a field goal with 1:00 left in the fourth quarter to defeat
Notre Dame Prep (Scottsdale, Ariz.) 30-27 on Saturday.
The Saints pulled ahead on a touchdown pass by
Thomas Lehman to
Grant Martinez, and subsequently went into halftime leading 13-10. The Firebirds took the lead for good with a field goal in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Chaparral still trailed by 10 points going into the fourth quarter. But 20 points in the fourth helped CHS pull out the victory.
The Firebirds looked to be in trouble when they trailed by 15 points before coming back to beat Notre Dame Prep.
Chaparral's most effective player was
Jake Roh. The senior wide receiver caught one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
Luke Taffuri made a difference for NDP. The senior ran for two touchdowns.
When the two teams played each other last season, CHS came away with a 59-7 victory.
In a non-conference game next week Chaparral (3-3) takes on Mesquite, and Notre Dame Prep (2-4) will go up against Shadow Mountain in a II Section III game.
