The Wharton Tigers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 72-0 loss at the hands of Bellville. Wharton has struggled against Bellville recently, as their contest on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Corrian Hood had an outrageously good game for Bellville as he rushed for 269 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Hood was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Hranicky, who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Wharton's loss was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Yates and 7-5 Sealy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.7% over those games). As for Bellville, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Wharton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Bellville will look to defend their home field on Friday against Sweeny at 7:00 p.m. Sweeny will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 441st, while Bellville is ranked 83rd).
