Basketball Recap: Stone Has No Trouble Against Resurrection Catholic

Stone had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 22-point drubbing they dealt Resurrection Catholic on Thursday. The Stone Tomcats were the clear victor by a 61-39 margin over the Resurrection Catholic Eagles. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Tomcats considering their two-point performance the contest before.

Jhase Jackson was his usual excellent self, going 10 for 21 on his way to 29 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cleon Johnson Jr, who posted six points in addition to seven assists and six steals.

Stone was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Resurrection Catholic only racked up nine assists.

Despite the loss, Resurrection Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Simeon Ballard dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for Ballard. Another player making a difference was Eric Fox, who put up two points and nine boards.

Stone is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. As for Resurrection Catholic, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stone will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wayne County at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Resurrection Catholic will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against East Marion at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
