Billy Patterson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs.
In other batting news, Wes Starcher was a standout: he got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Cameron is undefeated when Starcher posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Kason Angel was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Cameron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .745. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Paden City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-13 heartbreaker at the hands of Hundred. Even if the Wildcats couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Cameron's record now sits at 14-10. As for Paden City, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
Everything went Cameron's way against Paden City in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Cameron made off with a 19-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
