The Western Harnett Eagles will face off against the Overhills Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Western Harnett is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They had just enough and edged out Union Pines 8-7 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Vikings since April 29, 2019.
The team relied heavily on Ethan Mazurowski, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Dariel Pagan was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Overhills was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They put the hurt on E.E. Smith with a sharp 15-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jordan Frink made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Kaleb Griffin was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aaron Frink, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Overhills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Western Harnett's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Overhills, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Western Harnett might still be hurting after the 12-5 defeat they got from Overhills when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Western Harnett avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
