Freeman and J.R. Tucker are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Mavericks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Freeman barely beat Hermitage the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mavericks never let the Panthers get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Wednesday. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Ryleigh Perks was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Chilton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Freeman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, J.R. Tucker waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against Maggie Walker as they made off with a 14-6 victory.
Emily Bryant made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, J.R. Tucker let Aleea Cobb and Miyah Williams run wild. Cobb got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Williams got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That stolen base was Cobb's first of the season. Corinne Lewis was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.
J.R. Tucker pushed their record up to 4-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Freeman, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.
Everything went Freeman's way against J.R. Tucker in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Freeman made off with a 12-0 victory. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
