Hackett Catholic Prep hasn't had much luck against Constantine recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Fighting Irish will challenge the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Hackett Catholic Prep has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Friday, Hackett Catholic Prep came up short against Galesburg-Augusta and fell 18-13. The Fighting Irish have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Avery Doerr put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and 17 unearned) runs off 11 hits. Doerr was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Alexa Rosell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Sawyer Busick also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Constantine hadn't done well against Kalamazoo Christian recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Falcons blew past the Comets 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Hackett Catholic Prep, Constantine also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaitlyn Ross. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits. Ross was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 16 games.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Ransbottom, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Olivia Herlein, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Constantine kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kalamazoo Christian only managed eight hits.
Constantine is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Hackett Catholic Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hackett Catholic Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. However, it's not like Constantine struggles in that department as they've averaged .507. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hackett Catholic Prep might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Constantine in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Fighting Irish avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
