Basketball Recap: Lecanto Extends Winning Streak to Five

Lecanto had won four straight games and JT Tipton did his part to make it five on Saturday. The Lecanto Panthers narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Altamonte Christian Eagles 61-59 thanks in part to Tipton, who posted 24 points and three steals. He has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played.

Tez Joseph was another key player, putting up seven points and ten steals. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game.

Despite the loss, Altamonte Christian still got an impressive performance from Josiah Glaude, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance gave Glaude a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Almeda, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points.

Lecanto's win bumped their record up to 14-1. As for Altamonte Christian, they moved to 5-11 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lecanto will challenge Springstead at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Springstead has won four straight at home, while Lecanto won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Altamonte Christian, they will take on Lake Mary Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Altamonte Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season.
