Two dominant guards in Cal Baskind and Anthony Nettles are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Douglas County Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mountain Vista's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten games.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Mountain Vista at home against Dakota Ridge as the squad secured a 83-53 victory. Given Mountain Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Dakota Ridge is ranked 47th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Baskind was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with four steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for 14 straight games. Another player making a difference was Jacob Hoefs, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine assists.
Meanwhile, Douglas County came up short against Heritage on Thursday and fell 62-53.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Vaughn Baldwin, who scored 11 points along with three steals. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Nettles was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Mountain Vista's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Douglas County, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7.
Mountain Vista beat Douglas County 68-58 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain Vista since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
