Windthorst is 8-0 against Archer City since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Windthorst Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Archer City Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Windthorst will be strutting in after a win while Archer City will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Thursday, Windthorst got themselves on the board against Munday, but Munday never followed suit. They blew past the Moguls, posting a 56-0 win at home. The result was nothing new for Windthorst, who have now won three games by 34 points or more so far this season.
Windthorst found their leader in underclassman Brock Belcher, who threw for 241 yards and five touchdowns while completing 76% of his passes, and also rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown. Kasen Wiles was in the mix as well, providing Windthorst with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Archer City missed an extra point against Haskell on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Archer City was just a hair shy of victory and fell 34-33 to Haskell. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Landon Smith, who threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Laine Hall, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown.
Windthorst's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Munday and 3-4 Haskell (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.3% over those games). Archer City has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Windthorst strolled past Archer City in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 28-13. The rematch might be a little tougher for Windthorst since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
