The Sumrall Bobcats will square off against the East Marion Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Sumrall's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against North Pike as they made off with a 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Cooper McCoy tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Drew Davis was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask East Marion). They blew past Mount Olive 14-1 two weeks ago. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won four in a row.
Ayden Lewis was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Lewis was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for East Marion: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, East Marion got a massive performance out of Elias Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Johnson has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Bentley Blansett, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
East Marion always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .741. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Sumrall's win bumped their record up to 16-3. As for East Marion, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sumrall has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like East Marion struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sumrall got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2024 against East Marion by a conclusive 12-0 score. Do the Bobcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
